De Nederlandse wederuitvoer is de afgelopen decennia sterk gestegen en bedroeg in 2011 bijna de helft van de totale uitvoer. Dit artikel brengt voor het eerst de kenmerken in kaart van de bedrijven die hierbij betrokken zijn. Het pure wederuitvoerbedrijf verschilt sterk van de doorsnee exporteur. Het is kleiner, er zijn immers alleen werknemers nodig voor handel en niet voor productie. Daarnaast is het vaker in buitenlandse handen en sterker gericht op de EU. De omzet, toegevoegde waarde per werknemer, aandeel van handelsactiviteiten in de omzet, invoer en uitvoer zijn allemaal duidelijk hoger dan bij de doorsnee exporteur.
